Abu Dhabi is designated as the UAE’s capital city and owes much of its wealth to revenue from oil supplies which were discovered back in the 1950’s. The city of Abu Dhabi sits at the head of a T-shaped island jutting out into the Gulf off the central western coast of the UAE.

The city has a short history dating back only 250 years. In 1760, Bani Yas, a nomadic tribe discovered water on the island and built their first township there. It remained fishing and pearling village until oil was discovered around 50 years ago.

As the city is approached, as far out as 30kms from the airport, visitors cannot help but be amazed by the impressive tree-lined highways that lead into the city.

Shopping is a favourite pastime for locals and tourists alike, with everything from gold and jewelry to electrical goods that can be found for considerably less than at home.

One of the most enjoyable ways of getting to know the city is by walking along the cornice ( seafront promenade ), one of the largest in the Middle East. There is plenty to see and do in Abu Dhabi.

Al Hosn Palace, one of the landmarks of Abu Dhabi dates back over 200 years and is home to the cultural foundation. The Heritage Village is set in the style of a traditional Bedouin Village and gives an insight into the life of people of the UAE. Bateen Shipyard, a dhow shipyard on the west side of the city is also worth a visit. Just a short drive from Abu Dhabi is Liwa Oasis, gateway to the Rub Al Khali desert known as the Empty Quarter. Bedouin villages nestled among the sand dunes, wild camels and isolated agricultural areas make this perfect for 4x4 adventures.

Just 15 minutes from the Airport and 30 minutes from the city centre you will find the Abu Dhabi golf club by Sheraton. There are 2 courses, The challenging 18 hole National course and the more forgiving 18 hole Garden course that features nine floodlit holes for night golfing.
