Malaysia has succeeded in transforming itself into a prosperous modern society while preserving the traditional values of an ancient culture, making it a superb and diverse holiday destination. Peninsular Malaysia, including the East Coast, extends south from Thailand to the Johor Strait, within sight of Singapore and across the South China Sea to Borneo. The country's population of Malays, Chinese and Indians all live in remarkable harmony and in old Malacca, you will find Buddhist and Hindu temples on the same street as a mosque. Stunning offshore island resorts with the most modern facilities have sprung up along the peninsula's west coast at Penang, Langkawi and Pangkor. Long cut off from the rest of the Malaysian world by jungle-clad mountains and impassable swamps, the east coast states of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang largely escaped the effects of colonialisation and European influence. Malaysia has a holiday to suit all tastes – you can relax at one of the stunning resorts along the west or east peninsular coast, savour a traditional Spa treatment or play a world-class golf course. Enjoy a thrilling city break to Kuala Lumpur, with its world-class hotels, restaurants and shopping or explore its rich cultural and natural wonders. This is a country of sunny dispositions. Let its gentle nature rub off on you!
KUALA LUMPUR is an exciting, cosmopolitan city with superb shopping malls, exquisite restaurants and plenty to see and do, not least a visit to the iconic Petronas Towers, until recently the world's tallest building.
PENANG is undoubtedly one of the most well-known beach resort islands of Malaysia and is linked to the mainland by a large bridge spanning 13.5 kilometres. There are plenty of sightseeing and shopping opportunities here in addition to the modern hotels lining Batu Ferringhi Beach, from Hindu temples and Buddhist statues to great shopping in Georgetown. NOTE: Swimming may be restricted in the sea at certain times of the year due to jellyfish.
LANGKAWI is a magical holiday island with a unique heritage and mesmerising natural beauty – this is Malaysia with a difference. Most head here for the pristine soft white sand beaches and the luxurious spa resorts, but end up exploring Langkawi's many other delights, from the vibrant coral reefs, perfect to dive and snorkel, to the wildlife-rich rain forest splendour of the jungle interior.
EAST COAST MALAYSIA, part of Peninsular Malaysia and significantly less populated than other areas of Malaysia, East Coast Malaysia sports some of the country’s best beaches and clearest waters, making it the perfect choice for scuba diving, snorkelling, an adventure holiday or pure relaxation.
